Fire Training
Customized Training

Under the new Fire Safety Order employers have specific responsibilities to ensure the safety of the workplace in relation to fire. Our two popular courses cover these requirements. We run two basic fire training sessions: How To Choose and Use Fire Extinguishers and Fire Marshals in the Workplace.

Read on for more information, download the Fact Sheet on Fire Training, or download our Information Sheet on fire training.

How To Choose and Use Fire Extinguishers
This 45 minute outdoor session focuses on the safe and correct way to choose and use the four different types of fire extinguishers. Delegates will have a good general grounding in how fires start and how the tackle them safely. The session plan is:

  • Introduction
  • The Theory Of Fire
  • Water extinguishers
  • CO2 extinguishers
  • Dry Powder extinguishers
  • AFFF (foam) extinguishers
  • Fire blankets
  • Fire Action procedure

We usually charge £250 per session for up to 10 people. Though this is negotiable, depending on travel time and the number of people of the session. Whatever price we quote will include:

  • each delegate is given a pocket guide and certificate of attendance
  • a delegate list will be taken by us and recorded in our offices as a backup reference
  • the use of fire extinguishers during the hands on practical session
  • access to the trainer for one to one questions

Fire Marshals In The Workplace
The Fire Marshal’s responsibilities can be many and varied depending on the type of premises, the number of people employed or likely to be in the premises at any one time, the materials used or stored on the premises, and the type of work carried out there. Their principle role is to ensure the safe and efficient evacuation of the premises in the event of fire, but they are also a fire prevention officer, a fire trainer and potentially a fire fighter. Specific responsibilities can be divided into emergency and non-emergency duties, and will often include:

  • carrying out fire risk assessments of the whole premises
  • identifying fire hazards and minimising the risks they pose
  • ensuring adequate fire safety signs are in place and of the correct type
  • checking escape routes to be functional and free from obstruction
  • overseeing the checking and maintenance the fire detection system, fire extinguishers and emergency lighting
  • ensuring good security is in place to minimise the risk of arson
  • developing a habit of good housekeeping and fire action awareness amongst all staff with regular training

The duration starts at a minimum of 3 hours, but can be expanded depending on your needs. We can also "bolt-on" a practical fire extinguisher session.

The session plan is:

  • Introduction
  • What The Law Says
  • Fire Risk Assessments
  • The Theory Of Fire
  • Fire Extinguishers
  • Good Housekeeping and fire prevention
  • Fire Action

We'll need a classroom with a screen or wall to project onto, a flip chart with paper and tables for the delegates to write at. The price is £45 per person with a minimum charge of £450 plus VAT. This includes:

  • a Worksheet for each delegate, pocket guide and certificate of attendance
  • a delegate list will be taken by us and recorded in our offices as a backup reference
  • access to the trainer for one to one questions
